Abstract

Tobacco pipes.-The stem is fitted with a slitted tube which can be rotated by the mouthpiece, or from the front of the bowl, to cut off communication with the bowl and allow the liquid deposits to be blown out. Fig. 1 shows the rotary tube 5 which is carried by a milled flanged connection 6 screwed into the mouthpiece and is mounted within a stationary slitted tube 1 fitted with an end cap 10. Perforations 30, 31 are made in the cap and tube 1 to admit cool air to the bore to mix with the smoke. In the form shown in Fig. 2, an aperture 12 in the bowl is closed by the end 13 of the tube 5 when the pipe is in use, and is opened when the tube is rotated. In Fig. 4, the rotary slotted tube 18 is connected to the mouthpiece 15 by an inner tube and a slitted plate 16 is fitted in the bottom of the bowl. Fig. 6 shows a rotary slotted tube 20 and a cap 22 with a projection 23 engaging with a slot 24 in the end of the tube. Fig. 9 shows the tube separately. Fig. 7 shows a similar construction with a perforated diaphragm 27 in place of the slotted stationary tube 21.
