Abstract

165,853. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Horne, J. Aug. 27, 1919. Loading-appliances.-Consists (1) in special means for transferring projectiles from the shell-room to the upper hoist cage in ammunition hoists of the kind described in Specification 165,851, in which the magazine is below the shellroom and an auxiliary hoist is employed to raise the powder-charges to the shellroom level for loading into the upper hoist cage, and (2) in special means for transferring the ammunition from the upper hoist cage to the fixed-angle loading position at the gun-breech in a flash-proof conveyer. The projectile transfer arrangement in the shell-room B comprises a trolly D running on guide rails D<1> carried by the hoist trunk A<1>. In order to bridge the well of the auxiliary powder-charge hoist B<2>, the guide rails are provided with hinged extensions D<1x> which are raised and lowered by a lever Dx, Fig. 3. The ammunition conveyer E is worked between the hoist and the gun-breech by a press E<2> and is guided on an horizontal rail E<3x> and an inclined rail E<3>, so that the conveyer is automatically tilted to the fixed loading-angle during its traverse into loading position. The hoist cages A<2>, C', and the powder-charge transfer " container " C<2> are of the flash-proof kind described in Specification 165,850.
