Benches, work.-A stand for supporting automobile and like engines during overhaul, of the kind adapted pivotally to support an engine at or about its centre of gravity comprises an horizontal pivot pin rotatably adjustable within a bearing and a yoke through which the pin extends and against which the engine is clamped. As shown in Fig. 8, a pin 10, preferably consisting of two parts 11, 12 of different diameters connected by a conical part 13, is carried by a bearing 30 fixed to a bench, and is adapted to pass between adjacent pairs of cylinders of a Ford, Dodge, &c. engine. A yoke 22 rotatably mounted on the part 12 of the pin 10 and secured by a set-screw 24 is provided with blunt angular ends 25, 26 engaging in the hollows between the cylinders of each pair, a nut 15 on the threaded end 11 of the pin serving to clamp the engine against the yoke. Plain or corrugated surfaces are provided on the contacting faces 31 of the yoke and bearing so that by means of a nut 32 the engine may be fixed in the desired position. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the bearing 30 is carried by a tubular post 1 mounted on a base 2 fixed to a trolly 4. An arm 17 keyed to the end of the pin 10 is pivoted to a lever 18 pivoted to a T-bolt 19, Fig. 5, extending through a slotted rib 5 of the part 1 and secured by a nut 21. The yoke 22 or the 'arm 17 may be made integral with the pin 10.
