Reflectors; shades. -A lighting fixture comprises a light source 1, an upwardly flaring opaque reflector 2 open at the top and bottom, and a translucent member 11 which reflects some of the light incident upon it to illuminate the outer surface of the reflector 2. The light source is shown in Fig. 1 suspended from a ceiling attachment 15 by a cord 4, and the reflector 2 and member 11 are supported by means of rigid, spring, or flexible rods 5 secured preferably by screws 16 to the lamp socket cover 20. The rods 5 are twisted at points 8, 17 to increase their rigidity and to avoid the formation of shadows, and are turned at 9 to provide holding fingers for the member 11. The reflector 2 may be formed with an inwardly extending slotted flange 19 through which the rods 5 pass and is preferably of metal with reflecting plates or coating on its inner and outer surfaces. The member 11 may be of flat, curved, hemispherical, or other shape. By slightly raising the reflector 2, the plate may be removed. In a modification, the upper rim of the reflector 2 carries an ornamental translucent or opaque shade of silk or other material, and the member 11 may be covered with a cap similar in colour and texture to the shade or the lining thereof. This form of the invention is applicable to table lamps.
