Abstract
161,132. Auto-Ordnance Corporation, (Assignees of Payne, O. V.). July 27, 1920, [Convention date]. Cartridge magazines.-Relates to magazines of the kind described in Specification 141,533 which are formed of a flat drum having spiral guideways along which the cartridges are forced by a spring-actuated rotor to an opening in the periphery. According to the present invention, the rotor is formed of a unitary sheet-metal member with integral arms which engage the cartridges. The magazine comprises a body portion 9 having a spiral guide 18 for the bases of the cartridges, and a cover 12 having thicker spiral guides 19 for the bullet ends, the body and cover being journaled upon a hub 21 and retained by thin plate catches 22, 25 engaging grooves in the hub. The rotor 29, formed of dished metal plate, has flanged arms 31 passing between the grooved portions of the body and cover. The arms impel the cartridges with their radial portions 31, Fig. 1, and grooves 34 in the arms hold and impel additional cartridges. The cartridges are ultimately forced by a curved plate 36 against lips 16 which retain them until they are pushed endways into the gun by the breech-bolt. The rotor is actuated by a clock spring 40, the outer end of which is fastened within a casing 37 on the rotor, the inner end, which is arranged between sleeves 43, 41, Fig. 4, being connected to the hub by a pin 42. The spring is wound by a handle X and retained by a ratchet disc 45.
