Description
(54) PRECHARGED DISPOSABLE CONTAINERS
(71) I, [COUNT] THEODORE BELA RUD OLF ZICHY, British of 8 Sandwich Street,
London, WC1H 9PL, do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
This invention relates to disposable containers having a charge or pre-filling of a predetermined quantity of a liquid material to which a second liquid is to be added in order to produce a required solution of the material.
In particular, the present invention is con
cered with the preparation and dispensing ofnpotable solutions in containers such as beakers, cups or the like.
According to the present invention there is provided a disposable cup, container or the like containing a quantity of a liquid material which is able to provide a desired solution of the material upon addition of a second liquid into the container, wherein the wall of the container inclues a peripherally inwardly directed step which provides a portion of a smaller diameter at the bottom region of the container defining a receptacle for the liquid material, and wherein a liquid impervious cover is releasably attached to the peripheral surface of the step in liquid tight manner.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how to carry the same into effect reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure I is a cross-sectional view of a disposable beverage container, the Figure illustrating an early stage of the preparation of the content of the container for drinking and
Figure 2 is a further view from a different position of the container of Figure I.
Referring now to the drawings a beaker cup, or other container I has a generally tapered wall 2 which enables similar containers readily to nest one within the other, to form a stack (not shown in Figure 1). The containers I are to be essentially regarded as disposable containers in that they are only used once and then thrown away.
The wall 2 of the container is stepped adjacent to its base 3 to provide a chamber portion 4 of smaller diameter which defines a reservoir for the ingredients.
The container has a base which is suitably domed or otherwise shaped to ensure adequate strength to the base.
The formation of the smaller diameter portion provides a peripheral step or ledge 5 which defines a seating for the peripheral regions 6 of a sealing lid 7. A pull tab 8 is secured to or integral with the sealing lid 7.
The tab 8 is long enough to extend the full length of the body of the container I so as to be able to overhang the rim 9 of the container and to provide a short tab 10 which rests against the outside of the container. As can be seen the tab lies flush against the container wall. The lid 7 is secured to the ledge by a convenient sealing arrangement which allows the lid to be pulled away from its sealed down position by exerting pull on the tab. This process is shown in the Figures I and 2. It is believed that the operation is sufficiently clearly shown in the Figures as not to require a detailed description of the operation.
The chamber portion 4 is filled with a concentrate of the beverage. In use the sealing lid is removed and water is added to the concentrate. This water is either hot or cold according to the nature of the beverage.
It will be noted from the forgoing that the invention essentially provides a container with a charge of beverage forming ingredients which are in liquid form. This ingredient charge is held in place by a suitable cover.
The cover or lid is removed prior to the addition of the water which dilutes the concentrate to provide the drink.
It will thus be appreciated that an important aspect of the invention is that the charge containers can be handled in stacks or individually. In other words the stacking of the charged containers does not have to be maintained in order to retain the ingredient charge in place.
Claims (3)
1. A disposable cup, container or the like containing a quantity of a liquid material which is able to provide a desired solution of the material upon addition of a second liquid into the container, wherein the wall of the container includes a peripherally inwardly directed step which provides a portion of a smaller diameter at the bottom region of the container defining a receptacle for the liquid material, and wherein a liquid impervious cover is releasably attache to the peripheral surface of the step in liquid tight manner.
2. A disposable cup, container or the like as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cover has a pull tab for facilitating the removal of the cover from the surface to expose the liquid material within the receptacle.
3. A disposable cup, container or the like constructed substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures I and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
