Abstract

The retaining means has a locking bar (7), which is intended for engagement in a groove (4) of a cladding panel (5), and an arm (8) for engagement in an undercut groove (2) of a load-bearing bar (1). Studs (9) or other elevations are provided on the arm (8) in order to fix it in the load-bearing bar (1). When fastening the retaining means on the load-bearing bar, the latter, after the arm (8) has been introduced into the groove (2), is turned through 90 DEG , the studs (9) pressing into the material of the load-bearing bar (1). As a result of this fixing, unintentional loosening of the retaining means from the load-bearing rail, e.g. due to vibrations, is avoided and the cladding panel (5) is thus securely retained. <IMAGE>

Description

(54) A HOLDER FOR FIXING PANELLING ELEMENTS FOR WALLS OR CEILINGS (71) I, KURT TRANKER, an Austrian Citizen, of 7022 Schattendorf, Bahnhofstrasse 13, Austria, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to a holder for fixing pannelling elements for walls or ceilings, comprising a flange adapted to engage in a groove or over a tongue of a pannelling element, and an arm for engagement in an undercut groove of a support strip.
It has been found a disadvantage of such holders that they shift or turn in the groove relatively easily due to vibration or the like, so that the panelling elements are no longer securely held.
According to the present invention there is provided a holder for fixing panelling elements for walls or ceilings when the elements are juxtaposed with a support strip, said holder comprising a flange adapted to engage in a groove or over a tongue of a pannelling element, and an arm for engagement in an undercut groove of the support strip by introducing the arm into the groove and subsequently turning it through an angle of about 90 degrees, wherein the arm is provided with raised portions for fixing in the support strip in the rotated position of the arm.
In a particular advantageous embodiment of the invention, the holder is formed from a flat material and has two flanges each connected to the arm by one of two substantially parallel limbs, a spacer being provided on one of the limbs and extending between the two limbs. The spacer prevents the two limbs from being pressed against one another, so that such a movement, which might result in loosening, is also effectively prevented.
The invention is described in detail below with reference to exemplified embodiments illustrated in the drawings, although it is not restricted to these examples. Figure 1 is a view in parallel perspective in partial section showing a ceiling panel held in a support strip by means of a holder according to the invention; Figure 2 is a plan view, Figure 3 is a section on section station III-III of Figure 2 and Figure 4 is a section on section station IV-IV of Figure 2 and Figure 5 shows a view in oblique perspective of a horizontally disposed panelling strip fixed using a modified holder.
A wooden or plastics support strip 1 for fixing to a ceiling has a continuous undercut groove 2. A holder shown generally at 3 is inserted into this groove 2 and retains a ceiling panel 5 provided with a groove 4.
As will be clear particularly from Figures 2, 3 and 4, the holder 3 consists of a strip of flat material, e.g. galvanised sheet metal or plastics. This strip is bent or shaped into the form of a U in such a manner as to form a pair of substantially parallel limbs 6 (Figure 4) from which flanges 7 project. The limbs 6 are narrower than a web 8 connected the limbs (Figure 3) that the web 8 forms an arm. Projections 9 are pressed out of said arm 8 which also has an assembly slot 10 for the introduction of the blade of a screwdriver for example. The edges of slot 10 are advantageously in the form of claws 11 (Figure 2).
A spacer 12 bent out of one of the pair of limbs 6 extends between them.
The holders 3 are introduced into the groove 2 in a position which is at a right angle to that shown in Figure 1, and they are then turned through a right angle into the position illustrated. Thus projections 9 press into the top of the groove 2 and the holder 3 IS therefore immobilized in the groove 2.
The holder 3 is advantageously turned by introducing a screwdriver into the slot 10.
If a single panel 5 is to be removed, e.g. to reach concealed installations or in order to change damaged panels, it is necessary only to introduce a screwdriver blade into the slot 10 and the holder 3 can then be turned, against the retaining action of the projection 9, and be removed from the groove 2.
During the turning of the holder 3, the spacer 12 prevents the two limbs 6 from being pressed towards one another.
The construction of the slot 10 with claws 11 as shown in Figure 2 additionally allows mounting to be carried out particularly in the case of a wooden support strip 1, in which there is a risk of the groove 2 changing in dimensions due to drying out of the wood. If the claws 11 are bent up with the screwdriver blade, the holder 3 additionally clamps in the groove 2 and a better hold is obtained.
A holder shown generally at 13 in Figure 5 is used for fixing horizontally disposed grooved and tongued sections 14. The sup port strips such as strips in Figure 1 (not shown) extend vertically in this case.
The holder 13 as 3 above is fixed by turning through a right angle, the arm 15 engaging the groove of the support strip and the flange 16 engaging over the tongue 17 of the section 14.
Projections 18 are again provided on the arm 15 of the holder 13 corresponding to the projections 9 in the holder 3 above. A claw 19 is additionally provided.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A holder for fixing panelling elements for walls or ceilings when the elements are juxtaposed with a support strip, said holder comprising a flange adapted to engage in a groove or over a tongue of a panelling element, and an arm for engagement in an undercut groove of the support strip by introducing the arm into the groove and subsequently turning it through an angle of about 90 degrees, wherein the arm is provided with raised portions for fixing in the support strip in the rotated position of the arm.
2. The holder according to claim 1 wherein the raised portions are pressed-out bosses, claws or the like.
3. The holder according to claim 1, wherein the holder is formed from a flat material and has two flanges each connected to the arm by one of two substantially parallel limbs, a spacer being provided on one of the limbs and extending between the two limbs.
4. A holder substantially as hereinbefore described and as shown in Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawing.
5. A holder substantially as hereinbefore described and as shown in Figure 5 of the accompanying drawing.

Claims (5)

  1. **WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **.
11 as shown in Figure 2 additionally allows mounting to be carried out particularly in the case of a wooden support strip 1, in which there is a risk of the groove 2 changing in dimensions due to drying out of the wood.
