Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO TWEEZERS (71) 1, GRAHAM WILLIAM MILES ALWAY DUNKLEY, a British Subject, of 3, Cheltenham Road, Gloucester, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in ans by the following statement: This invention relates to tweezers and has particular application to the provision of tweezers for use in conditions of poor illumination.
According to the invention there is provided a pair of tweezers comprising two tweezer blades mounted at one end thereof on a housing containing an electric lamp disposed so as to direct light between the free ends of the tweezer blades, the housing comprising a cap in which the electric lamp is mounted and a body portion for containing a battery for the supply of electric current to the lamp, the body portion being in screw-threaded engagement with the cap so that rotation of the body portion relative to the cap moves the body portion further into or out of engagement with the cap, whereby, in use, a battery contained within the body portion is brought into or out of electrical connection with the lamp.
Preferably, a spring is so located within the housing as to engage the battery and oppose movement thereof into electrical connection with the lamp.
The spring may be a helical spring one end of which engages part of the lamp, and the other end of which, in use, engages one end of the battery around the centre pole thereof.
An enbodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a side view of a pair of tweezers incorporating an electric lamp.
Referring to the drawing, the device includes a housillg comprising a hollow cylindrical body portion 1 closed at one end and having a male thread (not shown) formed on its other end to receive one end of a cap 2 having a female thread. The other end of the cap 2 is closed by a boss 3 having a central aperture through which the outer end of an electric torch lamp 4 projects.
Two tweezer blades 5 and 6 project from the cap 2 on diametrically opposite sides of the boss 3, the outer free ends of the tweezer blades 7 and 8 being bevelled to provide gripping surfaces which are parallel to one another when the blades are bent into contact with one another. The tweezer blades are preferably formed from a resilient metal such as steel. Alternatively, separate spring means (not shown) may be provided for biassing the blades into a mutually parallel position in which the gripping surfaces are spaced apart by a distance substantially equal to the diameter Qf the cap.
The cylindrical body portion 1 contains a battery 9 and a helical spring 10 is disposed between the lamp 4 and the adjacent end of the battery so that, when the body portion 1 is only partly screwed into the cap 2, the centre pole of the battery 9 and the end contact of the lamp 4 are kept spaced apartfrom one another. When the body portion 1 is fully screwed into the cap 2, the spring 10 is compressed and the end of the lamp 4 makes electrical contact with the centre pole of the battery 9 so as to complete the circuit through the lamp, spring 10 and battery outer casing, and supply electric current to the filament of the lamp 4 and thereby illuminate the space between the free ends of the tweezer blades 5 and 6.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A pair of tweezers comprising two tweezer blades mounted at one end thereof on a housing containing an electric lamp disposed so as to direct light between the free ends of the tweezer blades, the housing comprising a cap in which the electric lamp is mounted and a body portion for containing a battery for the supply of electric current to the lamp, the body

4. A pair of tweezers substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
