Abstract
159,022. Robinson, S. J. Nov. 19, 1919. Pivoting-adjustments for wind-screens for vehicles, of the kind having a rod through the hinge with means for tightening clutches for holding the screen at any angle. The rod is threaded at each end to engage a non-rotating nut 4 caused as shown to engage a fixed bearing 7a which has a second cone surface to engage a cone 5 on the frame of the screen 14. A pin 8 screwed in the cone 4 is guided in a hole 9 in the part 5 so as to prevent rotation of the nut, several holes being provided to permit relative adjustment. A handle 5a is fitted at each end of the rod for operation, or may be fitted in the middle of the rod to permit convenient operation from any position. To prevent longitudinal movement of the rod, collars 6 may be fitted to it to bear against fixed shoulders 7. In a modification, the rod may be rotated by a rotary handle and bevel-gear or by worm gear. The worm gear may be operated by a handle 14a, Fig. 5, which can be tilted as a whole to set the angle of the screen.
