Abstract

Moulding horn buttons.- Articles, such as buttons, are made from horny material by compressing in a matrix a blank comprising two discs 1, 2 the disc 2 being seated in a recess in the disc 1, in order to obtain au article having a greater thickness than that of the material employed, and in which the facing material extends round the periphery. The recess in the disc 1 may be cylindrical or it may have a frusto-conical shape flaring towards the bottom as shown in Fig. 3. The disc 2 may be cylindrical but is preferably frusto-conical when the recess is frusto-conical. Fig. 5 shows a button obtained by compressing the blanks shown in Fig. 3. The disc 2 is gripped by the upturned edge of the disc 1 which forms the whole front surface of the button. A central projection is formed on the disc 2 to serve as the button. shank.
