Abstract

158,280. Grainger, J. July 7, 1916. Turning.-A lathe steady-rest comprises rollers h, Figs. 1 and 3, journaled on ball bearings in forks carried by studs j adjustable radially by nuts r in radially-arranged bosses d in the frame, which is in two parts hinged together and clamped at c. Slots e in the bosses pass pins p which prevent the studs from turning and provide for clamping by nuts q after adjustment. In a modification the rollers are loosely supported by a central neck x, Fig. 6, and retained by a pin y. In a further modification the frame is U-shaped in section, and four steadies are employed adjusted by end screws 4 and clamped by side screws (not shown).
