Abstract

158,273.. Kramer, L. A. Jan. 19, 1920, [Convention date]. Carcases, treating. - A machine for dehairing and cleaning carcases comprises an horizontal endless conveyer 33 to which the carcases are individually supplied, from the scalding tank 23, by an inclined conveyer 20, upstanding members 25, 26, secured to the conveyers, positively to move the carcases, and revolving flexible scrapers or beaters arranged to operate on the carcases on the conveyer 33. The conveyers 33, 20 consist of a plurality of endless chains engaging with sprocket-wheels 15, 17 and 19, 21 respectively, the upper parts of the conveyers 33 being supported in wooden troughs 32 which are notched and metal lined, opposite the beater shafts by which they are supported, and the lower parts of the conveyers 33 are supported by the upstanding members 26 which bear against the bottoms of a corrugated strainer 38 and remove hair &c. to the shoot 39. The members 25, 26 have terminal rollers 27 which prevent the carcases from being lifted over the members 26, and are arranged to align at the junction point of the conveyers. The scrapers comprise a number of flexible beaters 29 secured to wheels 28 which have vertically disposed rims 31 to prevent lateral displacement of the beaters, and scraping members 30 attached to the beaters 29 and arranged always to project above the rims 31. A lower series of scrapers are. positioned so that the wheels 28 project above the conveyer 33 and thus rotate the carcases to present all surfaces to the scrapers which action is facilitated by the rollers 27, and an upper series, which may be staggered relatively to or in vertical alignment with the lower series, is directly connected to the lower series by belts 6, 8. The flexible beaters on each wheel 28 are alternately long and short and co-operate with short and long beaters of each adjacent scraper. A pump which supplies cleaning water from a drip tank 37 to the spray nozzles 41, the conveyers and scrapers derive motion from a common source through belts, worm and bevel gears (not shown in Fig 3). The carcases are discharged from the conveyer to inclined spaced slats leaning to a delivery table.
