Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN CIGARETTE DISPENSERS (71) I PHILIP LOCKWOOD of 15 St.
James St., Accrington, County of Lancaster, a British Subject, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to improvements in cigarette dispensers particularly for attach ment to dash boards of motor vehicles.
According to the invention a cigarette dispenser apparatus comprises a cylindrical casing formed with a central bore to accom modate a dispenser, the dispenser therein being formed with a plurality of smaller bores concentric with a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical casing extending from one end to adjacent the opposite end, each smaller bore being of a diameter to accommodate a single cigarette, and a cap on the open end of the casing provided with a single hole or aperture therethrough so that when rotated on the casing each smaller bore therein registers therewith in turn, a spring being inserted in the end of each bore to move a cigarette forward when the bore is in register with the hole or aperture in the cap.
The invention will be described with refer ence to the accompanying drawings:- Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the dispenser, casing and cap; Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section of same; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through a cigarette bore in line with the aperture in the cap; Fig. 4 is a detail view of part of the dispenser and cap.
A cigarette dispenser A is made of cylin drical shape in a plastics material with a plurality of bores 1 concentric with the longitudinal axis of the dispenser. The dispenser A is closed at one end and open at the other end with a cap B to close the open end.
The dispenser A is inserted into a casing C for attachment to the dash board.
In order to anchor the dispenser A in the casing C a bore in the dispenser is formed of two diameters the larger diameter tapering outwards from a shoulder a where the two diameters meet to the outer end so that when the dispenser is inserted into the casing C it slides easily in up to a shoulder and then becomes an interference fit which prevents the dispenser from turning in the casing.
The smaller bores 1 of the dispenser A for the cigarettes are each moulded with slots 2 communicating with a larger central bore 3 for ease in moulding, the diameter of the bores 1 being somewhat greater than the diameter of a cigarette 4 (Figs. 1 and 3).
The outer end of the dispenser A is moulded with a rim 5 having a rib 6 for registering in turn with a plurality of recesses 7 formed in the flange of the cap B to bring each of the bores 1 in turn into register with a circular hole 8 in the cap B through which the cigarettes are dispensed. The cap B is sprung over the rim 5 and rotatable on the end of the dispenser A.
The bores 1 at the inner end of the dispenser A are closed by a base 9 of plastics or paper and a spring 11 is inserted into each bore 1, the springs being compressed as shown in Fig. 2 on the insertion of a cigarette 4, expand when the bore is in register with the hole 8 in the cap B to expel the cigarette to the position shown in Fig. 3 for withdrawal.
The casing is formed with two longitudinal ribs 12 the outer sides of which are tapered to engage a plate 13 with inwardly inclined flanges 14 adapted to slide on the ribs 12, the plate 13 being attached to the dashboard by screws passing through holes in the plate with the heads of screws in the slot between the ribs 12, appropriate holes in the plate being selected for the screws according to the required position of the dispenser which is then slid onto the plate with the ribs 12 engaging between the flanges 14.
To charge the dispenser the cap B is removed and a cigarette placed in each bore 1.
When the cap B is replaced a cigarette is obtained from the dispenser by rotating the cap to bring the hole or aperture 8 in register with a cigarette bore in the dispenser and a cigarette is then pushed forward by the spring 11.
