Abstract

158,067. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Oct. 24, 1919. Hunting switches.- In motor control apparatus a two-way switch comprises a pivoted plate carrying contacts 41, 42 and a pivoted contact arm 39, which is mechanically linked to a rock shaft 12 through a retarded spring device 33. The pivoted plate contact member is mechanically linked to a rock shaft 25 without any intermediate retarding device. Before current is turned on from the mains the parts are in the positions shown. When current is turned on by a button, connection is made through contacts 39, 41 to a magnet which turns the shaft 12. The spring 35 of the device 33 is compressed and the retarded member 34, which follows slowly under control of a dashpot 38 moves contact 39 on to contact 42, thus admitting current to a magnet, which turns the shaft 25, and finally off contact 41, thus cutting out the first magnet. The contacts 39, 42 then come back practically simultaneously, the dashpot allowing free movement on the return stroke. When current is turned off the parts are returned to the positions shown.
