Abstract

The two-part cable or pipe clamp is composed of a clamp lower part (10), provided for fastening on the material of the underlying surface, and of a clamp upper part (20), which can be connected to the clamp lower part by means of a fastening element (30) designed as a screw nail. The screw nail with thread turns (31) over part of its length permits simple mounting by driving in and can be screwed out again in order to release the connection. Sleeve-like attachments (23) on the clamp upper part for receiving the screw nail prevent damage to the clamp lower part and thus permit the connection to be released a number of times. <IMAGE>

Description

(54) CABLE OR PIPE CLAMP (71) We, HILTI AKTENGESELLSCHAFT, a Corporation organised and existing under the laws of the Principality of Liechtenstein, of Schaan, Liechtenstein, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to a two-part cable or pipe clamp comprising a first clamp part which is intended for fastening to a substrate and a second clamp part which is engageable with the first clamp part, the two clamp parts serving together to embrace a cable or pipe, and which is also connectable thereto by means of a connection element.
Already known, for the laying of cables or pipes, are two-part clamps in which the lower clamp part is fastened on a substrate and, after insertion of the pipe or cable, the upper clamp is connected to the lower part with the aid of screws. However, these clamps have the substantial disadvantage that the time involved in tightening the screws, when installing the clamps, is considerable. The dismantling of the cables or pipes, after they have been installed, is indeed possible, but here too the time involved in releasing the screws is considerable.
In addition to these clamps in which the parts are held together with the aid of screws, other versions are also known in which the connection of the upper clamp part to the lower clamp part is effected with the aid of detent toothings. A reduction of the mounting time can indeed be achieved with these clamps, but the subsequent releasing of cable or pipes, once they have been fastened, is possible only with considerable expenditure of time, and in most instances only with the aid of special tools. Moreover, connections employing detent toothings are usually not able to absorb fairly large forces.
The problem underlying the invention is to provide a cable or pipe clamp which comprises a first clamp part and a second clamp part connectable together by means of a connection element, which can be installed rapidly and reliably and which can, after installation, be released again in a simple manner.
In accordance with the invention, this problem is solved in that the connection element is in the form of a screwnail which extends through one clamp part and interengages with the other clamp part. After the two clamp parts have been assembled together so that they embrace the cable or pipe, they can be fixed in position within the shortest time by impacting the screwnail in with a small number of hammer blows.
The two clamp parts can be separated again, by removing the screwnail.
To facilitate introduction of the screwnail into the two clamp parts, it is advantageous for the first clamp part and the second clamp part to each have two apertures which can be brought into coincidence with each other.
This makes premounting possible. In the case of a clamp which has to be released from time to-time, the introduction of the screwnail is thereby considerably facilitated.
In order to avoid the risk of damaging the first clamp part, which is generally more expensive and more difficult to replace, it is advantageous if the second clamp part has on its inside, in extension of the apertures, sleeve-like shoulders both for engagement into the apertures on the first clamp part and for the reception of the screwnail. The screwnail is thus guided over its entire length in the second clamp part and does not come directly into contact with the first clamp part. The sleeve-like shoulders on the second clamp part act in the manner of an expansible dowel, the screwnail itself representing the expansion element.
In order to avoid premature expansion of the sleeve-like shoulders upon the joining together of the two clamp parts, whereby relative displacement of the two clamp parts would be made impossible, it is advantageous for the sleeve-like shoulders to taper conically towards one end. This feature furthermore.has the advantage that the resistance arising upon driving-in of the screwnail, increases gradually. The conical outside shape facilitates the joining-together of the two clamp parts.
So that the sleeve-like shoulders can widen accordingly in the expansion region, it is advantageous for the sleeve-like shoulders to have at least one longitudinal slot. If there are fairly large differences in size between the bore in the first clamp part and the sleeve-like shoulder in the second clamp part, destruction of the sleeve-like shoulder during its expansion is prevented.
Cable or pipe clamps very often have to be mounted in locations which are poorly access ible or inadequately illuminated. In order to facilitate the mounting, it is therefore advan tageous for the sleeve-like shoulders to have, at their tapered end, a centering shoulder, or adjoint-piece. Such a centering shoulder can, furthermore, serve to restrain the striking pin in a specific position prior to knocking-in.
To provide for the possibility of releasing the second clamp from the first clamp part, it is advantageous for the screwnail to be pro vided, at least over a part of its length, with thread courses. The second clamp part can then be released from the first clamp part by simply unscrewing the screwnail.
In order to make knocking-in of the screw nail as simple as possible, as well as to ensure reliable holding of the screwnail, it is advan tageous for the profile or section of the thread courses to be of sawtooth configuration, with flatter thread flanks directed towards the tip of the screwnail and steep thread flanks averted from the tip.
For releasing the screwnail it is advantageous for it to have a head which is provided with engagement means for a screwdriver to engage therewith. During knocking-in, the head of the screwnail serves as a stop. In order to prevent damage to the engagement means when the screwnail is knocked in, the head can be pro vided with a cross-slot or with a hexagonal recess instead of with a single slot.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accom panying drawing in which the single figure is a perspective view illustrating a two-part cable or pipe clamp constructed in accord ance with the invention, part of the clamp having been cut-away to enable its construc tion fully to be appreciated.
The illustrated clamp comprises a first clamp part designated as a whole by the numeral 10 and a second clamp part desig nated as a whole by the numeral 20. The first clamp part 10 and second clamp part 20 'have respective recesses 11-and 21 which together define a reception aperture for the reception of a pipe or cable (not shown) these recesses being, for instance, semi-circular. For securement to a substrate (not shown) the first clamp part 10 has an aperture 13 for the reception of a fastener (not shown) such as a bolt or screw. The second clamp part 20 and the first clamp part 10 each have two apertures 12, 22 respectively which can be brought into alignment or register with each other. The second clamp part 20 has, on its inside, in extension of its apertures 22, each of which has a countersink 27, sleeve-like shoulders or adjoint-pieces 23. These shoulders 23 serve for engagement into the respective apertures 12 on the first clamp part 10, and for the reception of respective screwnails designated as a whole by the numerals 30. The sleevelike shoulders 23 taper conically towards end 24. Such a construction of the sleeve-like shoulders 23 serves, on the one hand, to hold the screwnail 30 in an initially-inserted position as shown and for facilitating the joiningtogether of the two clamp parts 10, 20. Upon knocking-in of the screwnail 30, the sleevelike shoulders 23 act in the manner of an expansible dowel, with the screwnail 30 serving as an expansion element of such dowel. In order to facilitate the widening of the shoulders 23, these are provided at least with one longitudinal slot 25. The sleeve-like shoulders 23 have, at end 24, a centering tip 26.
Each screwnail 30 is provided, over a part of its length, with thread courses 31. The profile of the thread courses 31 is of sawtooth configuration. This facilitates knocking-in of the screwnail 30 and achieves a reliable hold of the same in the sleeve-like shoulder 23. The screwnail 30 has, furthermore, a head 32 which serves as a stop upon knocking-in of the pin. For releasing the screwnail 30, for the purpose of removal of the second clamp part 20, the screwnail 30 is provided, on its head 32, with engagement means for a screwdriver in the form of a slot 33.
