Description
(54) LAMINATING METHOD AND APPARATUS THEREFOR
(71) We, CENTRALA INDUSTRIEI CON FECrIILOR BUCURESTI, a Rumanian State
Enterprise of 7 Boulevard Armata Poporului, Buchurest, Rumania, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to a method of laminating material and apparatus therefor in the manufacture of fused strips for use in the garments industry.
It is known to form fused strips for use as garment belts by fusing together fabric and an interlining using a device having holders for the fabric and involving a system of pressing and heating. The fused strip is extracted already pressed from the device. This known arrangement has the disadvantage that it may not allow a reliable bonding of the interlining to the fabric to form the belt.
According to the present invention there is provided a method of bonding a fabric to a fusible interlining, comprising guiding in contact with each other a fabric strip and a
continuous length of fusible interlining with- drawn from a supply thereof, over a worktable to a heating means mounted thereon, heating the fabric and interlining assembly by a predetermined amount, pressing the heated assembly under a predetermined pressure to fuse the same, passing the fused assembly through feed means comprising feed rollers, guiding the fused assembly along a return path, folding the assembly and pressing the folded assembly to further fuse it.
The invention also provides a machine for performing the above method characterised in that the machine comprises a work table on which is mounted a supply of a continuous length of fusible interlining, heating means, guide means adapted to guide a fabric strip and the fusible interlining in contact with each other to the heating means, pressing means for pressing the heated fabric and interlining assembly to fuse the same, feed means comprising feed rollers for drawing the fused assembly through the guide means, heating means and pressing means, means for adjusting the pressure exerted by the said rollers on the fused assembly, return guide means, means for folding the fused assembly, a second pressing means and stoppable drive means for the machine.
The invention will now be described further by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form, of a machine according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of a guide means of the machine;
Fig. 3 is a detailed view of a guide plate of the machine;
Fig. 4 is a view of pressing means C and
H of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a view of feed means D of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a detailed view of the rollers of the machine;
Fig. 7 is a view of the return guide means
F of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 8 is a view of the folding means G of Fig. 1.
The machine consists essentially of a working table 1 which supports a guide means A, a heating means B, a pressing means C, a feed means D, means E for adjusting the pressure of the rollers of assembly
D, a return guide means F, a folding means
G, a second pressing means H, identical with.
C.
Under the working table 1, there is mounted an axle 2, on which rests roll 3, from which the interlining 4 is pulled.
On the working table is fitted a guide means A with means for adjusting the operable width thereof, consisting of a support plate 5 on which an even number of guiding plates are mounted by means of screws to plate 5, so as to be positioned in a predetermined position, in accordance with the dimensional parameters of the fabric and interlining assembly. The whole guide means is fitted to brackets 8 and 9 by screws in holes c, d.
On the same working table 1 is fitted the heating means B, comprising enclosure 10, rectangular in shape, in which are fitted heating elements 11, consisting of electric resistances, steam pipes or the like, and also a device 12 for measuring the temperature, in order to maintain the predetermined temperature, as required by the fabric and interlining. Necessary pressure for fusing is obtained by means of a pressing means C, with means for vertical lifting thereof, consisting of å metal plate 13 for the pressing operation, covered with a protective material 14, held in position by means of two springs 15, 16; plate 13 being connected to a movable arm 17, provided with a ball-shaped handle 18 with which to lift plate 13 vertically by means of rods 19, 20 provided with extensions 21, 22 and holes e, f for the passage of bolts 23, 24, the sub-assembly pivoting on shaft 25 by means of a bushing 26.
The feed means D, necessary for an even movement for a quality fusing and take off of the material from the machine, comprises two cylindrical rollers 27, 28 with knurled contact surfaces, provided with channels g for maintaining a level surface of material, fitted on shafts 29, 30; on shaft 29 there being mounted pulley wheel 31 by means of a screw 32, for transmitting the driving motion from a motor 33.
The means E for adjusting the pressure of the rollers 29, 30 ensures equal peripheral speeds, adjusts the alignment of the material and eliminates the possibility of it sticking, and is formed from holding plates 34, 35 whose upper parts end in a fork shape having internal channels in which slide small plates 36, 37 on which is mounted shaft 30 of roller 27, the small plates 36, 37 being kept in the desired position by springs which rest upwardly on shoulders of rods 40, 41 guided in holes of plates 42, 43 attached through screws 44, 45, the lifting, when required, of upper rollers 27 being done by means of a lever 46 attached with one end on shaft 30 and with the other end attached to a bushing 47 on shaft 25, a handle 48 being mounted on bushing 47.
Return guide means F is formed by guide roll 49, mounted on shaft 50, and attached to the table by means of ball bearings 51, 52 on rods 53, 54 which in their turn are mounted on table 1, and support roll 55 mounted on shaft 56 itself in ball bearings 57, 58, which arse in rods 59, 60 which in their turn are mounted on table 1.
Folding means G, consists of a metal holder 61, provided at the end 62 where the fabric and the fusible interlining enters with edges in- an upward position, which marks the beginning of the folding upwardly of the edges of the fabric and onto the exposed face of the interlining to form the finished product, continuing with one part j of truncated conical closed shape, from which comes out the folded product, which will then enter the pressing means H of a construction similar to sub-assembly C, sub-assembly G being mounted on table 1 by means of part 64 having a screw in the hole K.
The machine is driven by an electric motor 33, provided with an integrated clutch, reducer and variable speed control- ler, for controlling continuously or in steps the feed speed required by the materials used. Starting the machine is done by actuating the control system 65.
In order to obtain the semi-finished product, the fusible interlining 4 is unrolled from roller 3 and fed to the guide means
A where the fabric, which will be the outer side of the product, is arranged manually.
For the fusing, the textile material and the fusible material are fed to the heating means B, the pressing means C, the feed means D, where the means E for adjusting the pressure of the rollers D maintains the peripheral pressure and a constant speed to give a uniform fusing, then the return guide
F, the folding means G, and the second pressing means H, from where the folded and fused product is collected in metre lengths.
The procedure and the machine as described above have the following advantages:
A good welding of the fusible interlining with the material used for manufacturing belts, waistbands, loops etc. can be obtained;
The quality of semi-finished fabrications in fused strips for garments can be improved.
