Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO COMESTIBLE PRODUCTS (71) I, WILLIAM NEVIL JOHNSON, a British subject, of 70 to 74 Cannon Street, London EC4N 5AD, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention concerns improvements in or relating to comestible products.
It is a cause for concern in relation to the care of the teeth that children who eat ice creams, confectionery and the like and therefore are likely to place their teeth at risk will often not clean their teeth unless prompted to do so by an adult and again, if they are away from home, tooth cleaning equipment is not always readily available for that purpose.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a new or improved comestible product and according to the present invention there is provided a combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product, comprising a head including a wiper element provided with a dentifrice, a stick or other elongate member acting as a support for a block of confectionery, said support having the said wiper element located at one end thereof, the said tooth cleaning implement head being located within a waterproof pack, and a block of comestible product within which the said disposable toothbrush head is located.
The said block of comestible product may comprise confectionery and be such as to provide, for example, an ice-cream lolly, an ice-lolly or a lollipop. The said tooth cleaning implement head may, for instance, be in the form of a hollow resilient member which is a friction or elastic fit on the support onto which it may be pushed thimble-wise. In a further example, the said wiper element may be in the form of upstanding protuberances integrally moulded from a plastics material, rubber composition or the like from which the tooth cleaning implement head may be moulded.
Conveniently, however, and in accordance with a further feature of the invention, the said wiper element may comprise or consist of a relatively thin pad of foamed plastics material or the like impregnated with the said dentifrice.
The said dentifrice may be of any desired form, for example, in the form of powder, viscous paste or the like, but preferably the tooth cleaning implement head of the invention is such that it may be used for cleaning teeth without the addition of extraneous water.
Thus, if desired, the said wiper element may be such, for example, of foamed plastics material or the like, as to absorb water and the disposable tooth cleaning implement head of the invention may include water absorbed into or onto the wiper element.
The said waterproof pack may incorporate means, for instance, perforations and/or a tear strip or the like to facilitate removal of the pack (which is conveniently formed from a foil or film) to give access to the contents thereof.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood one embodiment thereof will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 is a perspective view partly broken away of one embodiment or a disposable tooth cleaning implement in accordance with the present invention and showing in dot-and-pick the ice-cream confection with which the tooth cleaning implement is associated to provide an icecream lolly; and FIGURE 2 is a side view of the disposable tooth cleaning implement of Figure 1.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, a combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and confectionery product in accordance with the invention comprises a head provided by a wiper element in the form of a thin pad I of foamed plastics material adhered by a suitable adhesive to one end portion 2 of a flat elongate member on stick 3. The pad 1 has a dentifrice impregnated therein and the end portion 2 of stick 3 provided with the pad is sealed, for example, heat sealed, within a waterproofed plastics film 4.
The tooth cleaning implement is combined with a comestible product in the form of a block 5 of ice-cream confection, that portion of the stick 3 carrying the pad 2 being embedded in the block and serving incidentally as a key to hold the ice-cream block in position.
Once the ice-cream has been eaten the user may immediately clean his teeth by stripping off the waterproof film 4 and applying the pad to his teeth. The disposable tooth cleaning implement may thereafter be thrown away.
If desired, the means may be provided to facilitate removal of the waterproof film from the pad. For example, such means could be provided by a tear-strip or the like.
If desired, the film shown in Figures 1 and 2 could be extended so that it protrudes outside the ice-cream. If desired, the whole of the disposable tooth cleaning implement including the stick could be wrapped in a waterproof film which could merely be unwrapped from the toothbrush when it was desired to use it.
It will be appreciated that, once the lollipop, ice-cream or the like has been eaten, the person, for example, the child, who has eaten the comestible product, may immediately remove the waterproof pack and clean his teeth using the "stick" which serves as a support for the comestible as a handle for the tooth cleaning implement.
The presence of the tooth cleaning implement head will be apparent once the comestible has been consumed and a child therefore will immediately recall the need to clean his teeth without prompting from an adult.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product, comprising a head including a wiper element provided with a dentifrice, a stick or other elongate member acting as a support for a block of comestible, said support having the said wiper element located at one end thereof, the said tooth cleaning implement head being located within a waterproof pack, and a block of comestible product within which the said disposable tooth cleaning implement head is located.
2. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product according to claim 1, wherein the said comestible product comprises confectionery.
3. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product according to claim 2, wherein the said confectionery comprises ice-cream.
4. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the said wiper element comprises a relatively thin pad of foamed plastics material impregnated with the said dentifrice.
5. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the said dentifrice is such that it may be used for cleaning teeth without the addition of extraneous water.
6. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the said wiper element is such as to absorb water and the said disposable tooth cleaning implement head includes water absorbed into or onto the wiper element.
7. A combined disposable tooth cleaning implement and comestible product, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
