Description

(54) A READING CASSETTE (71) I, BERND DELVE, of 6093 Flörsheim am Main, Bgm.-Lauck-Strasse 35, Federal Republic of Germany, a German citizen, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following state ment : -- This invention relates to a reading cassette in which is a printed thin paper or film web.
The invention is intended to provide a cassette which can accommodate a substantial amount of printed text.
According to the invention a reading cassette is characterised by a housing in which are arranged two spool spindles which serve for the reception of a thin web of paper or film which is printed with text on both sides and which is windable manually by means of rotary knobs or by an electrical drive first in one direction from one spool spindle to the other and then in the opposite direction behind two transparent plates respectively on the front side and the rear side of the housing for the text to be read first from one side and then from the other side of the said web.
For example, it may be provided that on the front side of the web in the reading cassette the first half of a continuous novel or the like can be read, and on the rear side there can be read the concluding text.
With the use of a thin paper web the total text may correspond to a book text of about 250 pages.
An advantage of the cassette as envisaged is that a complete text can be read without it being necessary to insert a new paper web.
How the invention may be put into practice appears from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings in which two cassettes embodying the invention are illustrated by way of example, and there are shown: Figure 1 a reading cassette in front view, Figure la the same in a side view in section, with the upper spool spindle being driven, Figure ib the same in a side view in section, with the lower spool spindle being driven, Figures 2 and 2a two housing parts of a second reading cassette, and Figure 3 the second cassette in crosssection.
Figures 1, la and ib show a cassette housing 1 with a laterally mountable electrical drive box 1' and two transparent plates la and ib. Two spool spindles 2 and 3 receive a paper web 4 printed on both sides. In this instance the spindles 2 and 3 are offset relative to one another so that the web runs in a plane parallel to a plate la or lb from a full spool to an empty spool In the drive box 1' are two electrical drive means 2a and 3a, two batteries B, a lamp 5, and a toggle switch 6, which for example in its upper position switches on the drive means 2a and in its lower position switches on the drive means 3a, whereas in its middle position both drive means are switched off. Also, for example, by means of interrupting contacts provided for the control of the paper web it is possible to stop the drive of the one or the other spool spindle, when a new paragraph of the text to be read is visible behind one of the transparent plates.
Figures 2, 2a and 3 show the two housing halves 7 and 7' with two spool spindles 8 and 8' and two transparent plates 9 and 9'.
Projecting square spindle spigots 8a and 8d of the spool spindles 8 and 8' serve for mounting an electrical drive box like the box 1' shown in Figure 1. A rotary knob 8b can be provided for manual operation.
Figure 3 shows how the paper web runs through guide slots between the two spool spindles 8 and 8'. The said plates are preferably able to rest in the housing parts.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:- 1. A reading cassette, characteriseby a housing (7, 7'), in which are arranged two spool spindles (2, 3 or 8, 8') which serve for the reception of a thin web of paper (4) or film which is printed with text on both sides and which is windable manually by means of rotary knobs or by an electrical drive first in one direction from one spool spindle to the other and then in the opposite direction behind two transparent plates (la, ib or 9, 9') respectively on the first side and the rear side of the housing for the text to be read first from one side and then from the other side of the said web.
2. A cassette according to claim 1, wherein the housing comprises two parts of synthetic plastics material.
3. A cassette according to claim 1, wherein the spool spindles (2, 3) are rela tively offset so that from the periphery of a wound-up full spool spindle the web runs in a plane parallel to a transparent plate qthe empty spool spindle.
. A cassette according to claim 1, wherein the web is guided through guide slots.
5. A cassette according to claim 1, com prising electrical drive and switch com ponents (2a, 3a, B and 6) and a lamp (5) all arranged in a separate box (1') which is mountable laterally and releasably on the housing.
6. A reading cassette constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore de scribed with reference to and as shown in Figures 1 and la and lb, or in Figures 2 and 2a and 3, of the accompanying draw ings.
