Description
(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO SHOES
(71) We, INDUSTRIEWERKE LEMM & BR<
Co., GmbH, a German Body Corporate, of
Karl-Benz Strasse 2-4, 5500 Trier, Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
The invention relates to a shoe or slipper consisting of a light weight body and a one-piece bonded or moulded-on sole, inclusive of heel.
Known shoes of this type are designed to be comfortable and give the foot a possibility of resting without any particular stresses. These shoes are arranged such that, when walking, the foot behaves in substantially the same way as when the wearer is walking bare-foot. Such footwear, which can be worn as a light leisure footwear inside and outside the house, but serves especially as house wear, has for this reason hitherto been made so light that the foot deliberately has no support in the footwear. Accordingly, with such footwear, it is necessary to ensure that the shoe is held on the foot by particular means; for example, a raised heel-piece may be provided so as to ensure in some degree the support of the foot.
The invention now has for its object not to influence the advantages of lightness and flexibility of such footwear, and as a consequence the comfort when the footwear is being worn, but nevertheless to provide a better support for the foot in the shoe.
This is successfully achieved, when starting with such footwear, for example, a synthetic plastics sole which is injection-moulded or cast thereon or a rubber sole which is vulcanised thereon, by providing edges of the sole in the region of the arch of the foot which are shaped so as to widen the developed form of the sole and thereby provide portions which are brought up in the finished shoe by the same amounts on each side to substantially the upper edge of the body of the shoe.In this way, a surprisingly good guiding of the shoe on the foot is obtained, without deleteriously affecting in any way the heel, ball and toe regions which are particularly required for the resting and the comfort of the foot: the moulded sole is more yieldable as compared with the decidedly soft upper material, despite the flexibility thereof, and encloses the foot gently and without any pressure in the bridge region.
Beyond the fulfilment of the object as stated, however, one embodiment according to the invention has the particular advantage that, firstly, savings can be made to a considerable extent as regards upper material by the sole being raised on both sides, since the upper only has to extend to shortly below the edge of the sole, in order to cover the seam between upper and inner sole. Secondly, as a consequence of this constructional form, the inner sole can be correspondingly drawn upwardly and consequently, also at this position, it is possible to dispense with the material for the upper which is often very valuable for reasons of a fashionable design, it merely being necessary for the seam to lie towards the outside in the region of the raised portions of the rim of the bottom sole.
In this way, the shoe can be given a par ticnlarly pleasing appearance, which corresponds approximately to the shoes with a raised leather sole developed in connection with open-fronted sandals or more especially by Red Indian tribes, the said sole being joined at its edge to the upper by stitching.
Thus, the raised edge of the sole may be provided with a pattern depicting such a seam. Such a seam connection may also be provided on the underside with the technical object of improved non-slip properties.
A closed incision may thus be provided which extends from the heel zone via the bridge zone near the external edge of the under-surface of the sole and is extended back inwardly in hook-like manner in the ball zone and proceeds into the heel zone, said incision having corresponding seam threads which are arranged substantially transversely of the incision, so that, firstly, by the incision in the sole, secondly, by the transversely extending seam threads applied to said incision and, thirdly, by the drawing together of the two cut edges, which in this way extend slightly from the bottom surface, effective non-slip properties are provided which, according to the invention, can be further improved by also providing an incision substantially parallel to the edge and corresponding seam threads near the front edge.
The invention is further explained hereinafter by reference to one constructional example, which is illustrated in the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view in perspective,
Figure 2 in an underneath view, and
Figure 3 is another side view in perspective.
The upper 5 of the shoe, consisting of high-quality material produced on a
Jacquard machine, is provided with a top upper edging 6 consisting of leather, the said leather being stitched to the upper 5. The bottom sole 7 applied by injection-moulding is raised on both sides of the foot in the bridge region at 8 and 9 and is provided with a seam pattern formation 10. In other respects, the top surface of the sole pre sents the aesthetic appearance of a darkbrown leather.
Formed on the underside are incisions 11 and 12 with appropriate seam-forming threads 13, the incision 11 extending as a closed incision from the heel zone via the bridge zone near the outer edge at 14, is guided back inwardly in hook-like form in the ball zone at 15 and passes at 16 into the heel zone, while the incision 12 extends close to the front edge.
In conformity with the raised zones or regions 8 and 9 of the bottom sole 7, the inner sole is also raised to beneath the edge of the bottom sole, as a result of which the need for material for the upper is reduced.
The bottom sole 7 advantageously consists of polyurethane (PU), a highly elastic material which can be adapted in the bridge region and on both sides elastically to the foot and guides the foot in a surprisingly comfortable and safe manner.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A shoe or slipper consisting of a light weight body and a one-piece Sole, inclusive of heel, attached or formed thereon, the edges of which sole in the region of the arch are shaped so as to widen the developed form of the sole and thereby provide portions which are brought up in the finished shoe by the same amounts on each side to substantially the upper edge of the body of the shoe.
2. A shoe or slipper according to Claim 1, further comprising an inner sole extended upwardly to just beneath the outer sole edge.
3. A shoe or slipper according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, when provided with incisions in the sole and seam threads which extend substantially transversely thereof.
4. A shoe or slipper according to Claim 3, wherein said incision comprises a closed incision which proceeds from the heel zone of the sole via the arch to near the front edge of the sole and is guided back inwardly in hook-like manner in the ball zone and passes into the said heel zone.
5. A shoe or slipper according to Claim 3 or Claim 4, comprising an incision in the sole near the front edge thereof and substantially parallel thereto, said incision having corresponding seam threads.
6. A shoe or slipper according to any preceding claim wherein the sole is formed of polyurethane.
7. A shoe substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
