Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN TICKET HOLDERS (71) I, ARTHUR WALTER HOOD, a British subject of 304/342 London Road, Hadleigh, Benfleet, Essex, do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a Patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particfllarly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to a ticket holder for attachment to shelving for example. In a preferred embodiment the invention provides a holder for a price ticket or label for securing to the edge of a display shelf having a channel member with two opposed lips serving to engage with parts of the holder.
According to this invention there is provided a ticket or the like holder with a part adapted to retain the ticket in a manner affording display of a surface thereof, a first clip member with a side retroverted and the edge thereof angled to form a lip, the said member being secured to or integral with the ticket retaining part, one or more second clip members secured to the ticket retaining part or first clip member and extending away therefrom with an angled edge forming a lip, said lips being directed in opposed directions whereby they may be engaged with opposed inwardly directed edges of a rail and retained thereby.
The first clip member may be relatively rigid and the second clip member relatively flexible. This arrangement provides a secure fitting which may be easily engaged with a shelf ticket rail without the use of a tool and which further may yield with respect to the rail if accident ally contacted whereby bodily injury and damage are minimised.
It is preferred for the first clip member to be a strip extending the length of the ticket retaining part, the second clip member being constituted by two spaced spring steel plates of appropriate and identical profiles.
The first clip member, by virtue of the retroverted portion, is also engageable with the top rail of a basket or other means, and if the second clip member or members is secured to the ticket retaining part by a rivet, for example, so as to be rotatable, turning of same after passing through the wire of a basket secures the holder thereto.
Preferably the first clip member is substantially inflexible whereas the second clip member is springy to enable same to be flexed, or even bent if necessary, to engage a ticket rail.
An embodiment according to the invention is described by way of example in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein: Figures 1 shows an exploded view, in perspective, of a ticket holder, Figure 2 shows a cross section of the holder, Figure 3a and 3b show additional means for securing the holder, Figure 4 shows a modified ticket holder, and Figure 5 shows a cross section of the holder of Figure 4.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2 a ticket holder comprises a part 1, for retaining a price ticket for example, which part may be injection moulded or formed from sheet material and of U-shaped cross-section to receive the ticket la between the limbs 2.
The ticket may be visible from the side 3 of the holder or entry from the opposite side can be arranged. The other side limb of the holder has two spaced pads 4 against which respective ends of a first clip member 5 bear. This clip is of elongate form and of a relatively rigid material, preferably a plastics. formed with one side retroverted to define a channel 6. The edge 7 of the channel is angled to form a lip 8.
Two second clip members 9, both of springy steel, overlie respective ends of the member 5 and rivets 10 secure both clip members 5 and 9 to the part 1. The clips 9 have an angled free edge 11 forming lips which are directed in opposed directions to the lip 8.
The holder 1 may be engaged with a standard form of ticket rail 12 (Figure 1) having opposed inwardly directed edges 13 by location of the lip 8 of the first clip member 5 under one edge 13 and location of the lips 11 of the second clip members under the other edge 13. The springy nature of the clips 9 permits such engagement without the requirement for using a tool and further provides for ready detachment by a shop assistant or yielding of the holder when contacted by a person or object to prevent substantial damage or injury.
The embodiment shown includes an area 14 bounded by a ridge 15 against which a central part of the member 5 bears and which defines a recess into which a tongue 16 of a clip 17 or 18 may engage (Figure 3a and b). The clip 17 is of simple right-angular shape and in use the part 17a is located beneath articles on a shelf for example. The clip 18 has a U-shaped tongue part and carries a means 18a enabling a glass or wood shelf to be engaged in the slot 18b.
The channel 6 of the first clip member 5 may engage over the top rail of a basket or the like and the clips 9 may be arranged to project through parts of the basket at suitable positions. The rivets 10 afford rotation of the clips 9 whereby the holder can be firmly secured to the basket.
The ticket holder shown in Figures 4 and 5 is similar but with the part 1 and first clip member 5 integral and clips 9 secured by rivets through holes 19 in the part 1. The front of the part 1 has a lip 20 along the normally lower edge and a transparent cover 21 is provided to overlie the ticket.
The cover 21 may be a welded plastics pocket to retain the price ticket.
The embodiments provide a holder which may be readily engaged with various widths of ticket rail and which is adaptable to various other locations without modification.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A ticket or the like holder with a part adapted to retain the ticket in a manner affording display of a surface thereof. a first clip member with a side retroverted and the edge thereof angled to form a lip. the said member being secured to or integral with the ticket retaining part, one or more second clip members secured to the ticket retaining part or first clip member and extending away therefrom with an angled edge forming a lip, said lips being directed in opposed directions whereby they may be engaged with opposed inwardly directed edges of a rail and retained thereby.
2. A ticket holder in accordance with Claim 1, wherein the first clip member is relatively rigid and the second clip member is relatively flexible.
3. A ticket holder in accordance with Claim 1 or 2, wherein the first clip member extends in the form of a strip, two second clip members being located near each end of said first clip member.
4. A ticket holder in accordance with Claim 3, wherein the first clip member is a strip extending the length of the ticket retaining part, the second clip member being constituted by two spaced spring steel plates of appropriate and identical profiles.
5. A ticket holder in accordance with any preceding claim, wherein the ticket retaining part and both clip members have parts superposed and secured together by a fixing means.
6. A ticket holder in accordance with Claim 5, wherein the fixing means and second clip member are arranged to permit rotation of said clip member.
7. A ticket holder in accordance with any preceding claim, wherein the first clip member and ticket retaining part having portions spaced to define a recess for reception of a tongue of a clip device.
8. A ticket holder according to any preceding claim, wherein the ticket retaining part has spaced pads against which the first clip member bears.
9. A ticket holder according to any preceding claim, wherein the first clip member is integral with the ticket retaining part and forms an extension of the upper edge thereof.
10. A ticket holder according to any preceding claim, wherein the ticket retaining part comprises, or includes, a pocket of transparent material.
