Description
(54) DEVICE FOR CLEANING CYLINDER BEARERS ON PRINTING PRESSES (71 ) We, ROLAND OFFSETMAS
CHINENFABRIK FABER &
SCHLEICHER AG, a German company of Christian-Pless-Strasse 6-30, 6050 Offenbach am Main, Germany, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
The invention relates to a device for cleaning cylinder bearers on printing presses.
On printing presses with cylinders designed as so-called bearer runners, it must be ensured that the bearcrs are scrupulously clean before they roll on each other. If this is not the cases even the smallest impurities are noticeable in the quality of the print. These impurities may lead in extreme cases to bouncing of the cylinder and thus cause avoidable shock loadings on the cylinder bearings. In addition, damage may occur to the cylinder bearers, with the result that the printing quality of the machine is permanently reduced.
To eliminate these dangers it is necessary to provide a device which has the task of keeping the cylinder bearers free from contamination.
According to the present invention there is provided a printing press having at least one pair of cooperating cylinders with cylinder bearers, and a device for cleaning a bearer comprising a holder pivoted on a stay bolt secured to the press frame and provided with a scraper which is forced by a spring on to the bearer of a cylinder, contact between the holder and bearer when the scraper is worn down being prevented by a stop.
The cleaning device ensures that all particles of dirt are removed from the cylinder bearer, and accordingly that the bearers are clean when they run on each other.
An exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention is described below in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a schematic side view of a bearer scraper in a printing press, and
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device of
Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, a scraper 4 consisting of a triangular rebated prism is guided in a holder 1 pivoted on a stay bolt 3 secured to the frame 2 of the press. A stop 8, designed to prevent the metal of the holder 1 from contacting the cylinder bearer 6 when the felt on scraper 4 is worn down, is also provided on the machine frame 2. Another stop 9 on the machine frame 2 locks the scraper 4 in its thrown-off position. This takes place when the scraper 4 is lifted off the cylinder bearer 6 and moved on the stay bolt 3 towards the machine frame. One end of a spiral spring 5, which is wound round the stay bolt 3, acts on the holder 1, and the other end is secured to the stay bold 3. This spiral spring 5 ensures that the scraper 4 is forced on to the cylinder bearer 6 when applied and on to the stop when thrown off. It is necessary to throw off the scraper 4 to prevent absorption of solvent by the felt during washing of the cylinder. A further scraper designed as a doctor blade 10 and made of a harder material than the felt scraper 4 e.g. of polyamide can advantageously be secured to the holder 1 in front of the scraper 4 viewed in the direction of rotation of the cylinder. This doctor blade 10 can remove firmly adhering impurities such as specks of paper dust etc. more effectively. In addition, it helps to prolong the life of the felt scraper. The dirt scraped off the cylinder bearer is discharged downwards by inclining the polyamide scraper towards the cylinder axis.
To ensure that the cylinder bearer 6 always remains bright, the felt scraper 4 can be impregnated with oil before it is inserted in the holder 1. An opening 11 is provided in the holder 1 for re-lubrication of the scraper 4.
Claims (12)
1. A printing press having at least one pair of cooperating cylinders with cylinder bearers, and a device for cleaning a bearer comprising a holder pivoted on a stay bolt secured to the press frame and provided with a scraper, which is forced by a spring on to the bearer of a cylinder, contact between the holder and bearer when the scraper is worn down being prevented by a stop.
2. A printing press according to claim 1 wherein the scraper is made of a soft, absorbent material.
3. A printing press according to claim 2 wherein the scraper is made of felt.
4. A printing press according to any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the geometrical shape of the scraper is such that it can be used several times by re-positioning or rotating it in the holder.
5. A printing press according to any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the holder is lockable on a further stop by lifting it off the cylinder bearer and moving it on the stay bolt.
6. A printing press according to any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein a second scraper is provided which is designed as a doctor blade and located in front of the first scraper in the direction of cylinder rotation.
7. A printing press according to claim 5 wherein the doctor blade is made of a harder material than the first scraper.
8. A printing press according to claim 6 or 7 wherein the doctor blade is made of polyamide.
9. A printing press according to any one of claims 6 to 8 wherein the doctor blade is inclined in relation to the cylinder axis.
10. A printing press according to claim 9 wherein the inclined position of the doctor blade is selected so that dirt on the cylinder bearer is removed between the cylinder bearer and the machine frame.
11. A printing press according to any one of claims 1 to 10 wherein a filler hole for oil is provided on the holder.
12. A printing press including at least one pair of cooperating cylinders with cylinder bearers and means for keeping the bearers clean substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
