Abstract

Moving-chamber apparatus.-Apparatus of the kind in which a pocketed drum rotates beneath the outlet of a hopper is provided with a series of operating handles corresponding in number and situation with the sockets in the drum, each handle being adapted to release holding mechanism and to turn the drum from a position in which a pocket registers with the hopper opening until the next pocket is in similar register. The drum a, which has four pockets c<1> - - c4, rotates on a spindle o fitted in a part A attached to the casing b, and has a toothed rim h on one side, the other side being formed by a plate i screwed to the drum and carrying four crank-handles p pivoted to studs r. The cranks p have a slight pivotal movement on the stud limited by a pin and slot s. Upon the drum there are four notches m, into the top one of which a spring catch n can engage so as to lock the drum with a cavity in register with the mouth e of the hopper. Rotation is effected by moving the top crank in the direction of the arrow, a pawl and ratchet preventing reversal, the slight pivotal movement of the crank first disengaging the spring catch m. After a quarter of a revolution, the catch engages the next notch, whereupon to rotate the drum further the next crank is operated and so on. A counter q is provided to register the revolutions, and a series of stirrers, driven from the wheel h and located in the hopper, keep the material loose. The pockets c<1> &c. have the bottom formed by broad-headed screws d by means of which the capacity may be adjusted.
