Abstract

156,481. Sturtevant Co., B. F., (Assignees of Ross, J. O.). Dec. 11, 1913, [Convention date]. Drying.-In drying paper on the paper machine, the web is sufficiently dried by the drying- cylinders 1 to enable it to support its own weight, and then passes to means whereby it is supported so that both sides are exposed to the air, as in festoons, and further dried by hot air supplied through nozzles 5 from a pump 7, heater 8, and conduit 6, and blown against the surface at the middle of the web. A saving in drying-cylinders is thus effected. The paper may then pass direct to the calenders 15, or it may be finally dried by additional drying-cylinders which will take out any wrinkles produced by the festooning- apparatus.
