Description

(54) MOULDED CONNECTOR FOR FILTER HOSES (71) I, LUIGI MANCOF DI MAN TICA, of Italian nationality, of Vicolo Parini, 54, Cinisello Balsamo (Milan), Italy, do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to improvements in a moulded connector for a filter hose.
Filtering appliances particularly for dust filtering boxes are known, comprising a lower box for receiving the air to be filtered and an upper box for receiving the filtered dust. The lower box and the upper box are associated with ring-shaped unions, generally consisting of a welded metal annular sheet with which the filter hoses cooperate in order to filter the material coming, for example, from a dust remover.
It is evident that manufacture of the ring-shaped unions involves a large waste of labour and material with the result that the cost of the filter box is too high.
This invention principally aims to practically obviate the above drawbacks and to provide new advantages.
According to the present invention, there is provided a moulded connector for a filter hose comprising a modular plate of plastics material configured peripherally for assembly in side-by-side relationship with other identical plates, the plate being moulded with a hollow spigot for connection to a filter hose, with through bores for securing adjacent connectors together and with blind holes for attachment to a frame member.
If the filtering box is made of transparent material for example, that known under the Trade Mark MACROLON, it is possible to inspect, by transparency, the inside of the filtering boxes. Also, it is relatively easy to pierce the blind holes for the passage of fastening screws to a load-bearing frame member.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which : Figure 1 is a top view of four connectors (I, II, III, IV) according to the invention connected to each other, Figure 2 is an isometric view to a larger scale of one of the four connectors shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an under-plan view showing three of the connectors (I, II, III) of Figure 1, Figure 4 is a sectional view along the line IV-IV of Figure 1 but to a larger scale.
Figure 5 shows schematically a top plan view of a lower filter box having eight connectors according to the invention, and Figure 6 shows a vertical elevational view of a filtering device to which the invention can be applied.
In the example illustrated in Figure 2, each modular connector consists of a moulded plate of plastics material, for example, that known under the trade mark MACROLON. Each plate is moulded with a cylindrical projection or hollow spigot PL for cooperation with a filtering hose MA (Figure 6). Each plate may be considered as the monolithic superimposition of two quadrilateral parts PI, pi offset from each other along a common diagonal DI (Figure 1). The parts PI, pi are of rectangular shape and in this example are square. Towards the ends of the common diagonal DI two through-holes FO-fo are moulded, the hole FO being in the upper plate part and the hole fo being in the lower plate part. Along the two diagonals of the quadrilateral figure VK defined by the region common to both the upper and lower plate parts PI, pi four blind holes FC are moulded; the blind holes FC are formed towards the ends of such diagonals and are shown by intersecting axes and are more clearly visible in Figure 2.
The connectors are configured for assembly in mating or abutting relationship with other similar connectors as illustrated.
In order to assemble a number of connectors together each is oriented so that, for example, the upper plate part PI projects downwards and to the left beyond the lower plate part pi (Figure 1) or the lower plate part pi projects downwards and to the right (Figure 5). The plates are all similarly orientated and arranged in abutting relationship as can be seen in Figures 1, 3 and 5. In order to secure the plates together it is sufficient to pass a screw VI (Figure 4) through the diagonal holes FO, fo whereby with one screw only, four components may be located and assembled. It will be apparent from Figures 1 and 4 that the screw VI passes through the plate part Pl of plate II and the plate part pi of plate III, the plate part PI of connector II overlaps the plate part pi of connector I and the plate part Pl of plate III overlaps the plate part pi of connector IV so that the single screw VI serves to connect, locate and retain all four plates I, Il, III and IV. Logically the screw VI is screwed in a hole FR of a transverse or longitudinal support TR according to the size of the frame opening in which the plates are assembled. For fastening the end plates of a set, the holes FC are used, these being pierced with the point of a drilling device and screwed to holes provided or formed in the frame of the filtering box which the assembled plates are intended to cover.
According to one feature of the invention, the plates are made of transparent material making it possible exactly to center the point where the blind holes FC are to be pierced for screws to be received in the holes in the frame; moreover, it will be possible to exactly locate the position wherein the screws VI (Figure 4) are to be passed for being screwed in the holes FR pierced in the bearing frame.
The further advantage of a connector including a number of plates made of transparent plastics material is that it will be possible visually to inspect the inside of the upper box CS and of the lower box CI (Figure 6.) WHAT I CLAIM IS : 1. A moulded connector for a filter hose comprising a modular plate of plastics material configured peripherally for assembly in side-by-side relationship with other identical plates, the plate being moulded with a hollow-spigot for connection to a filter hose, with through bores for securing adjacent connectors together and with blind holes for attachment to a frame member.
2. A moulded connector according to Claim 1 made of a transparent plastics material whereby the location of the blind holes relative to the frame member can be visually identified.
3. A moulded connector according to Claim 1 or 2 which is monolithically formed as two superposed quadrilateral plate parts offset along one diagonal with the through bores formed towards the end of the common diagonal where it extends beyond the overlap of the plates and the blind holes formed in the overlapping parts of the superimposed plate parts.
4. A moulded connector according to Claim 3 in which the blind holes are formed towards the ends of the two diagonals of the overlapping parts of the superimposed plate parts.
5. A plurality of moulded connectors according to any one of the preceding claims arranged in side-by-side abutting relationship and supported on one or more frame members of a filter box to form at least part of one face thereof, the connectors being secured to and supported on one or more frame members of the filter box by fastening means extending through the through bores and at least some of the initially blind holes.
6. Two pluralities of moulded connectors according to Claim 5 each associated with a separate respective filter box and disposed in opposed spaced relationship with one plurality of moulded connectors facing the other and hoses connected between the hollow spigots of opposed moulded connectors.
7. A moulded connector for a filter hose constructed, arranged and adapted to operate substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
