155,849. Challiner, W. Oct. 21, 1916. Disc wheels.-In a built-up metal wheel, the closed or flattened outer ends of tubular or girder &c. spokes are welded within sockets pressed out of the rim. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the closed end p of the tubular spoke a is secured in a corresponding socket e in the rim d. Welding- metal is applied at i and o. In a modification, the channel g between the double walls of the socket e is closed by a metal washer. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, a spoke a of girder section is passed through a socket s in, and welded to, the rim d. The outer end q of the spoke is flush with the rim, and the socket is reinforced by angle-pieces v. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the reinforcing-members v have additional bracing-webs y, the inner webs w extending through the base of the socket. The inner ends of the spokes may be secured to a box centre of the kind described in Specification 23718/14. Fig. 10 shows such an arrangement in which the radial webs 7 of the hub elements a' are extended to fit within a channel ring g fcrming the hub centre. The flanges 10 of the ring g are welded at 11 to the edges of the parts a<1>.
