Abstract

155,523. Hardy, L. R., and Hardy Bros. July 7, 1920. Spinning and trolling tackle.-A bait-head a<1> and oblique flexible vanes b, for use with natural or artificial spinning-baits, are formed from a single blank of sheet metal, as shown in Fig. 1. A central portion a is, by successive stampings in suitable dies, worked into a thimble-like head a<1>, adapted to receive the head of a natural bait or to form the head of an artificial bait-body. The apex of the head is preferably finished with a tubular neck a<2>. Fig. 3 shows the method of mounting a natural bait. One hook of the end triangle c is passed through the bait near its tail, one hook of the triangle d is inserted in the body of the bait, and, with a baiting-needle, the loop e of the gut or gimp is threaded through the body and out of the mouth of the bait. The loop e is then passed through the neck a<2> of the bait-head, which is passed back until it covers the head of the bait. The bait-head is held in position by one hook of a triangle f, which is passed into the bait, the triangle being attached to the neck a<2> by a short piece of gut.
