Abstract
155,382. Bean, J. H., and Harper, Sons, & Bean, A. Sept. 20, 1919. Bodies.-Bodies of motor-vehicles, &c., are constructed of cast metal sections each including a panel with integral flanges for connecting the sections together and to the chassis or frame. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a motor-car body is built up of a scuttle section a, front and rear quarter panel sections c, e, a rear panel-section f, and doors b, d. The edges of the sections a, c, c are formed with flanges j to form seatings for the doors b d which are formed with corresponding flanges k, and the flanges i, k are thickened at m for the attachment of hinges. The rear sides of the sections e are formed with flanges which are secured to corresponding side flanges on the section f. Integral lugs n may be provided on the flanges for securing the interior finish, and stiffening ribs h may be formed on the sections. Each section is provided with a bottom flange g for attachment to the chassis p, Fig. 8, and the flange may be rabbeted as at o to receive floor sections q. The bottom flanges of adjacent sections may be connected together by angle members r, or by bolts through lugs s as shown in Fig. 9. According to the Provisional Specification, each section may comprise a frame to which panelling is secured.
