Abstract

The 1,2,3,3a,4,5-hexahydrocanthine derivatives of formula: <IMAGE> in which X1 and X2 taken together represent an oxygen atom, and taken separately represent <IMAGE> or <IMAGE>, R3 being a C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl, C2-C6 alkynyl, aryl(C1-C6 alkyl) or aryl radical, R1 represents a C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl or C2-C6 alkynyl radical and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group of formula -CH2OH, have a vasodilator activity which manifests itself especially at cerebral level. These compounds and their salts may be used, in particular in the form of pharmaceutical compositions, in the treatment of peripheral and cerebral vascular insufficiencies.
