154,249. Imray, O., (American Warp Drawing Machine Co.). May 27, 1919. Knot-tying devices.-Relates to thread-uniting machines more especially for uniting the threads of two warps. In operation, the uniting-mechanism is continuously advanced and a threadplacing member or needle q moves from the position shown in Fig. 17 to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 14, and places the foremost separated and selected threads x<0> of the warps in the bight of a knotter-hook r as shown in dotted lines. The knotter-hook then makes half a revolution, the needle q moves a little to the left, and a tension rod s moves outwardly to put tension on the threads. As the knotting-device completes a revolution, a separating-hook r<7>, Fig. 16, which is normally Rush with the hook r, advances and the needle moves forwardly and laterally to place the threads between the hooks r, r' as shown in Fig. 16, the rod s being retracted at the same time to relieve the tension. The hook r' retracts and the strands are held between the hooks r, r<7> as shown in Fig. 17. The strands are severed by a rotatable severing-device t, and the knotting-device makes about another revolution, whereupon a loop-stripping arm u strips the loop from the knotter over the severed but clasped end, the threads being guided by a guide-plate v. Further movement of the stripper withdraws the threads from the knotter and clamps them against the carriage of the uniting mechanism. The tension rod s then gives a sharp outward stroke to tighten the knot, the stripper-arm moves out, and the parts resume the position shown in Fig. 14.
