Abstract

1537472 Moulding seals on containers P D (TECHNICAL MOULDINGS) Ltd and BICC Ltd 26 Nov 1976 [27 Aug 1975] 35366/75 Heading B5A A method of moulding a seal between a lid 11 and a container 1 holding contaminated material comprises injecting thermoplastics material e.g. polythene through one or more parts 25 in a mould 21 so that a groove 18 formed in the lid and and container is filled. The container and lid may be of polythene which is softened by the injected material. One or more ports 25 may be provided with a plunger which is introduced into the mould cavity as the injected material cools to take up shrinkage. The mould may be fitted to the lid prior to or after the latter is inserted into the container. The injection units may be attached to the mould by quickrelease mechanism. The moulding process may be carried out by remote control. The mould may be formed of transparent e.g. acrylic or non-transparent plastics, metal or metal alloy. The container and lid may have tapered mating surfaces to increase the tightness of fit as the lid is inserted.
