Abstract

1536500 Service column GILFLEX-KEY Ltd 11 March 1977 [12 March 1976] 9959/76 Heading E1B [Also in Divisions F2 and H2] A service column for use in a building comprises a central elongate core I having at least three flanges 3, a plurality of elongate strips 5 equal in number to the flanges and each secured to or integral with an individual flange, a plurality of elongate cover strips 10 equal in number to the flanges, each strip 5 engaging at opposite edges the edge of a cover strip, each cover strip with its associated strips 5 and core 1 defining a passage for carrying electrical lines, fluid carrying pipes, glass fibre or other optical or laser systems or energy transferring wires or rods. Strips 5 and cover strips 10 may be of insulating material. Beads 13 inhibit removal of cover strips 10. The core may be non-metallic and of suitable fire performance characteristics (e.g. P.V.C.) but is preferably of metal having electrical continuity and isolating characteristics. A gap in a cover strip may accommodate an accessory plate (Figs. 2A, B not shown), or the cover plate may be apertured (Figs. 3A, B, not shown).
