Abstract

1536285 Measuring density of liquid or gas A PALMAI J PALMAI and E PALMAI 9 Dec 1975 [10 Dec 1974] 50491/75 Heading G1G A device for measuring the density of a flowing liquid or gas comprises a bar 101 supported at its centre and having rigidly fixed adjacent its ends bodies 107, 108 through which the liquid or gas can freely pass, the bodies having a large surface/ mass ratio and being of great rigidity, exciting means arranged in proximity of one end of the bar to induce vibrations about its point of support therein, and pick-up means operative to generate an electrical signal in response to the induced vibrations, the frequency of the electrical signal being indicative of the density of the liquid or gas. As described the bar is made of steel and the exciting means and the pick-up means are coils mounted at opposite ends of the bar. Alternatively, magnetostrictive or capacitive systems may be used. Also described are arrangements in which a second device is provided on a reference chamber mounted in or on the measuring chamber.
