Abstract

1536112 Neutralization of sulphonated polymers DOW CHEMICAL CO 6 Sept 1977 [7 Sept 1976] 37060/77 Headings C3L and C3P Sulphonated solid polymers, e.g. polyethylene in the form of bottles or automobile fuel tanks, are neutralized by contact with a gaseous mixture comprising (i) an inert gas, e.g. air or nitrogen (ii) ammonia or an organic amine as neutralizing agent, and (iii) a vaporous hydroxyl compound, e.g. water or a lower alcohol, in an amount which accelerates neutralization but which does not render the polymer surface moist.
