Abstract

1535610 Cutting carpets WALL PAPER Mfrs Ltd 15 Aug 1977 [17 Aug 1976] 34116/76 Heading G1A [Also in Division G3] To slit a carpet a line is woven or printed near the edge of the carpet and then the carpet is passed beneath cutting discs which are positioned relative to the line by a photo-electric system observing the line. In Fig. 2 the system has three photo-cells observing line 1, and if cell 2 departs from the line a jack 14 drives the photo-electric system, and with it the discs 5, in a direction indicated by cell 3 or 4 so as to reposition cell 2 over the line. If cell 2 is not returned within a predetermined time, e.g. 0À5 seconds, the apparatus is automatically switched off. Lamps 21, 22, 23 on the photo-electric system indicate when cell 2 is off line and when it has remained off line too long.
