1535511 Locking switchgear; casings IMI SANTON Ltd 23 March 1976 [23 Dec 1974] 55440/74 Heading H1N A switch gear lock mechanism for a rotary spindle 2, Fig. 4, of an operating handle (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a locking plate 40 slidable transverse to the rotational axis of the spindle 2 and co-operating as by flats 54 with the spindle 2. A pin 60 attached to an adjustably rotatable plate 56 on the handle 22 co-operates with abutments 62, 64 on the plate 40 to prevent it from being moved into the locking positions when the switch is in its "on" or "test" positions. The plate 40 is slidable between parallel guides 48, 49 and retained in position by a pair of spring washers 50 engaged over square section projections 51 of the guides 48, 49. An actuator rod 44 is coupled to the plate 40 by engagement over a lug 42 to which a tension spring 46 is attached which urges the plate 40 into the unlocked position but may be arranged to urge the plate 40 into the locking position. A slot (52) may also be arranged in the rod 44 at the top or bottom so that it may be padlocked in the locked or unlocked positions. A coupling projection 19 of the enclosed switch gear actuator 10 is engaged by sockets 20, 21 integral with the spindle 2 and locked in position by a spring- loaded pivotal arm 13 when the switch is on the "on" position whereby the door cannot be opened. The arm 13 may, however, be removed if necessary by the use of a screwdriver inserted through in hole 39 and engaged with a slotted head of a square section pivot pin 14 to which the arm 13 is attached.
