Abstract

1534225 Selenium and cadmium recovery CRA SERVICES Ltd 25 Aug 1977 [25 Aug 1976] 35761/77 Heading C1A Se and/or Cd are recovered from materials, especially fume dusts, by mixing with strong sulphuric acid to form a pug, heating the pug at 200-350‹ C. to volatilize Se and leaching the residue to recover Cd. The heating may be effected in stages, each successive stage being conducted at a higher temperature. Volatilized Se is suitably recovered in condenser scrubbers which are preferably operated at temperatures less than 55‹ C. whereby Se is recovered in its red form. The residue is suitably leached with water or dilute sulphuric acid for the recovery of Cd.
