Abstract

1533800 Drawing filaments THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Oct 1977 [25 Oct 1976] 44149/76 Heading B5B In drawing or stretching a filament the filament is heated by radiation especially electromagnetic radiation directed uniformly onto the filament surface. A filament is passed through a hollow tube 2 around which are positioned one or more incandescent lamps 1. Tube 2 is capable of transmitting radiation and casing 3 of reflecting such radiation. The two ends of 3 are capped (not shown) to avoid radiation loss. The filament is drawn out of the tube at a higher rate than that at which it enters to effect stretching.
