Abstract

1533788 Brake linkages; linkwork BERGISCHE ACHSENFABRIK FR KOTZ & SOHNE 7 May 1976 [21 June 1975] 18710/76 Headings F2E and F2K A vehicular brake assembly, comprises a brake cylinder 5 the piston-rod 7 of which is connected via a telescopic device 11 to a connecting fork 10; the fork 10 is connected, optionally via an intermediate member 18, with a brake lever 19. The lever 19 is pivotable to apply the brake for service braking by the brake cylinder 5 acting via linkage 7, 11, 10, (18) or by a parking brake actuating mechanism which acts on the lever 19 via a control cable 24-during such actuation the telescopic device 11 expands (Fig. 2, not shown) without pulling the piston-rod 7 out of the cylinder 5. As illustrated, the cylinder 5 which is of compressed-air diaphragm type is secured via a web 3 of a base-plate 4 to holders 2 carried by an axle beam 1. The piston-rod 7 has an end thread 8 on which a locknut 9 is disposed. The telescopic device 11 comprises a tube 12, a guide piston 13, a guide rod 14, and a guide ring 15. The tube 12 is fixed at one end to fork 10 and its other end is closed by guide ring 15, and on the end of the guide rod 14 a nut 17 is secured which can be screwed on the end thread 8. The connecting fork 10 can be connected to the member 18 and the member 18 can be connected to the lever 19 in a number of discrete positions to vary the effective length of the lever 19. The lever 19 is part of a housing 20 of an automatic adjusting device 21 which is arranged in a brake actuator 22 mounted in a bracket 23 connected with beam 1. Pivoting of the lever 19 by cable 24 or by cylinder 5 about the axis of rotation of actuator 22 actuates a mechanical drum brake.
