Abstract

1533295 Ice making C K APOSTOLOU 2 Nov 1976 [31 Dec 1975 18 March 1976] 45590/76 Heading F4H Apparatus for producing ice cubes comprises a refrigerating system 1 including an evaporator 2 with depending projections 3; a basin movable between a first position in which the depending projections are received therein and a second position removed from said projections; and a pump 11 for pumping water from a trough 8 to (a) a water wheel 13 adapted to rotate a stirrer 14 in the basin 4; the blades of the stirrer being so disposed with respect to the projections that when the ice 5 reaches a predetermined size, the blades contact the ice and are slowed, thus actuating switch 6 which is connected to stop refrigeration, start defrosting, and stop operation of the pump, (b) a second water wheel 16 for controlling movement of the basin between its first and second positions; the basin being biased towards its second position and being driven by the wheel 16 into its first position during ice making; (c) a hydraulic time switch 24 attached to the switch 6; (d) a feed pipe 25 to the basin 4. As shown, basin 4 is formed by a stationary end wall 20 and a movable section adapted to move on rollers to a position 4<SP>1</SP> by the action of springs. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the basin is of integral construction adapted to pivot about one end wall.
