Abstract

1532997 Cable reels GOBLIN (BVC) Ltd 21 May 1976 [12 May 1975] 19958/75 Heading B8M A device for storing and winding an electric cord or flexible cable 3 on a domestic appliance, e.g. a vacuum cleaner, wherein a selected withdrawn length of cable may be automatically rewound when the appliance is no longer in use, comprises a unitary, moulded plastics reel 1 mounted on an electrically conductive spindle 12 with a conductive sleeve 19 coaxial therewith. Spindle and sleeve remain electrically in contact, when the reel is rotated, by means of contact leaves as at 7 and 8 (housed in a chamber 6) whereby terminals as at 9, 10, on the reel are always connected to stationary terminals as at 18, 20. Rewind S-spring 23 comprises a portion stored on flange 22 and helically coiled in one (unstressed) sense and, when in use, an aperture (stressed) portion retained in part 24 and helically coiled in the opposite sense. The reel rotation is braked by engagement of a pivotally-mounted, spring-biased shoe (33) with its periphery, Figs. 4-6 (not shown).
