Abstract
1532651 Arresting fractures in pipes BRITISH GAS CORP 7 Jan 1976 [22 Jan 1975] 2722/75 Heading F2P A pipeline fracture-arresting means comprises a cylindrical sleeve 1 having a greater diameter than the pipeline 2 and arranged concentrically therewith to define an annular space therebetween which is bridged by annular support means provided by a filling 6 of a material having a compressive strength sufficient to arrest the propagation of a fracture in the pipeline (e.g. grout) held in place by radial closure plates 3, 4 which may be spaced from the pipeline 2 to avoid damage to the surface of the pipeline. If a split or fracture appears in the pipeline 2 it can propagate along the pipeline only until it reaches the arrester means. The means are provided at predetermined intervals along the length of the pipeline to limit the length of a fracture.
