Abstract

153,253. Kaspar, L. Oct. 28, 1919, [Convention date]. Hulling and husking; polishing. - -A machine for shelling, polishing, and like treatment of grain, legumes, clover seed, &c. comprises a series of chambers 4 through which the grain &c. passes successively and which communicate by means of passages 20 which are opened periodically by means of flaps 19 actuated by tappets 23 on the shaft 22. An intermittent feeding-device also is actuated by the shaft 22. Beaters rotating in the chambers 4 draw air through inlets in the end A of the machine and through apertures 7 in the walls of the spaces 6 between the chambers. The husks, dust, &c. are blown through perforated panels 8 into the casing, from which they are removed by a worm conveyer 10 and fan 9. The grain passing from one chamber 4 through the passage 20 enters the space 6 and is guided by a plate 21 into the next chamber. The width of the chambers 4 diminishes towards the outlet end of the machine. The feeding-device comprises a hopper 12, Fig. 4, with a pair of rocking shutters 15, 16 at the top and bottom of the space 17, the volume of which is varied by adjusting a plate 18.
