Abstract

1532457 Cleaning water closets BENGT PETERSSON NEW PRODUCTS INVESTMENT AB 21 April 1976 16039/76 Heading A4F [Also in Divisions B4, B8] A device for cleaning water closets comprises a receptacle 16 housing a stack of pads I each incorporating cleaning material and being disintegratable in water, and a holder 6 having a handle and means for releasably engaging a pad. To use the device shown a hinged lid 17 is opened and part 11 of the holder having a slit 12 is placed against the top pad in the stack. When a sleeve 14 is slid along the handle towards the pad, the pad is gripped by the slit 12. After the pad has been used to clean a water closet the sleeve 14 is slid away from the pad releasing the pad into the water closet where it disintegrates and may be flushed away. To prevent opening by children, the lid 17 may require slight pivoting followed by a lateral movement against a a spring bias before it can be opened fully. As shown the pad 1 comprises an envelope of cellulose wadding 2 housing a cleaning compound such as caustic soda and having an abrasive layer 3. Alternatively, as in Fig. 8 (not shown), the pad comprises layers (26), (28) of coarse-surfaced paper and cellulose wadding enclosing a cleaning compound, the pad having a pleat (27) to facilitate engagement by the holder 6.
