Abstract

1532244 Heating and cooling granular material MARWIN (HOLDINGS) Ltd 29 Sept 1976 [27 Oct 1975 26 March 1976] 44050/75 and 12172/76 Heading F4U A heat exchange unit 10 for heating and/or cooling granular material, e.g. foundry sand, comprises a chamber 11 having an inlet 12 and an outlet, e.g. an overflow outlet 13. The chamber is separated from a windbox 22 by an annular air-permeable nylon partition 23 and is provided with electric heating elements 28 and cooling pipes 29. Supply of electrical power to the heating elements and of cooling fluid to the pipes 29 is controlled by a switching apparatus 34 in response to the temperature of the material in the hopper. Also, the switching apparatus switches off the pump for the air supply when the supply of sand to the inlet 12 ceases.
