1532199 Production of high impact styrene polymers V S GLUKHOVSKOI F P AFANASOV V P SHATALOV A G KHARITONOV E M RIVIN J S TSYBIN K A KULAKOVA B A DOLGOPLOSK V M SOBOLEV V P KOTOV V V POLYAKOV A P GARSHIN V G FIL S V EFREMOV I P MITIN V F KOZLOV A R GANTMAKHER D K POLYAKOV A A AREST & R V BASOVA 3 May 1977 18456/77 Heading C3P A high impact styrene polymer is produced by (1) polymerizing styrene in an inert hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a conjugated diene polymer or a random-, block- or graft-copolymer of a conjugated diene and styrene or a mixture of such polymers, using an anionic organo alkali metal catalyst or an adduct thereof, and (2) cross-linking the resulting product by means of a peroxide or a redox system. Preferred base polymers are the so-called star polymers obtained by reacting living conjugated diene polymers (especially block copolymers with styrene) with, for example, SiCl 4 , which produces a 4-branch star with a silicon atom as the hub.
