Abstract
1531939 Control of flocculation process AMERICAN MINECHEM CORP 10 Nov 1976 [10 Nov 1975] 46789/76 Heading C1C In a process for dewatering an aqueous slurry of fine solid particles comprising adding a flocculant to the slurry and charging the resulting mixture to a thickener to settle flocculated solids from the mixture and separate water, a radiation beam is impinged on the flocculated solids transverse the direction of travel of the solids adjacent solids discharge means from the thickener, the impinged radiation is detected to measure the density of the flocculated solids and produce an electrical signal proportional thereto, and the electrical signal is used to automatically control and regulate the rate of discharge of the flocculated solids from the thickener. The radiation used is preferably gamma radiation.
