Abstract

1531895 Telephone apparatus protection J B WINGATE 30 Aug 1977 [28 May 1976] 22230/76 Heading H4J Telephone apparatus, e.g. coin box 10 and handset 11, is protected by a metal casing including a front panel having an aperture 27 covered by a shutter 28 in the form of an armoured flexible band (29) Fig. 2 (not shown) mounted on rollers (30, 31) at the upper and lower limits of aperture 27. The handset 11 is mounted in a carrier having protective grilles 34, 35 giving audio access to the receiver and microphone. The flexible band (29) is counterbalanced so that the handset 11 can be brought to an appropriate height for use. A rigid backing plate (32) is secured to the front panel behind the front run of the flexible band (29). The telephone cradle switch 16 is operated by a link and lever system 37 operated by a foot pedal 39. Alternatively the cradle switch 16 may be operated by putting the handset carrier to its lowest position and by the user moving the carrier away from this position to bring the telephone into use. Apertures give access to the dialling unit 13 and coin slots 14, 15.
