Abstract

1531614 Pneumatic tyres L R SPERBERG 12 April 1976 [14 April 1975 5 Dec. 1975] 14781/76 Heading B7C . A pneumatic tyre comprises a pair of oppositely and equally biased parallel cord carcass plies 26, 28 extending from bead to bead and anchored to the bead cores, and a further ply 24 atop the carcass plies, the cords, of the further ply making a greater cord angle with the midcircumferential plane than the cords of the carcass plies. Each cord of the further ply in the tyre is of less length than before manufacture (i.e. is compressed), and may form a zig-zag configuration in the shoulder and tread regions of the tyre. The further ply does not have a portion positioned axially inwardly of each bead core and may terminate remote from, or in, the beads (Figs. 12-15, 16 and 19-21, not shown). The further ply cords may be radial or biased (in the latter case the tyre includes an additional oppositely and equally biased further ply).
