Abstract

1531536 Removing acidic components from a gas KOPPERS CO Inc 25 March 1976 [27 March 1975] 12141/76 Heading C5E An acid component or components is removed from a gas by (1) contacting the gas with a first stream of alkaline absorbent solution and creating thereby a first fouled solution containing a portion of the acidic components, (2) contacting the treated gas from step (1) with a smaller second stream of alkaline absorbent solution and creating thereby a second fouled solution containing a further portion of the acidic component(s); (3) contacting the second fouled solution with steam under reduced pressure to regenerate an alkaline absorbent solution from the second fouled solution; (4) contacting the first fouled solution with steam from step (3) under reduced pressure after the steam has contacted the second fouled solution to regenerate an alkaline absorbent solution from the first fouled solution; and (5) generating the steam by heating a portion of the second alkaline absorbent solution and flashing it under reduced pressure.
