Abstract
1531225 Lead-acid battery CHLORIDE GROUP Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974 23 May 1975] 47270/74 and 22804/75 Heading H1B A sealed lead acid cell which does not require topping up with electrolyte or water but contains venting means characterized in that the electrodes contain metallic supports, e.g. Pb- Ca-Sn alloy which minimize hydrogen evolution. The capacity of the negative electrodes is at least as great as the positive electrodes and the volume E of the electrolyte of the cell relative to the pore volume of the separator X and the pore volume of the negative active material Y is not greater than 2X+Y. The positive electrode, separator, negative electrode assembly may be wound on to a former or into a spiral, e.g. Fig. 2, the separator providing a wicking mechanism for electrolyte contained in a reservoir. Several such cells may be interconnected to form a battery assembly.
